Please join us for a series of presentations in tribute to the important contributions to early childhood education in New Mexico of Dr. Virginia Shipman, who passed away in 2016.

Virginia Shipman
With a life-long love of learning, Dr. Shipman attended Packer Collegiate Institute, and received degrees from the University of Rochester, Penn State University, and her doctorate in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. After teaching and conducting research at the University of Chicago, she led a landmark longitudinal study of children and their families in the Head Start preschool program as Senior Researcher at the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey. In 1986, she moved to Albuquerque to chair the Family Studies program in the University of New Mexico College of Education, retiring in 2015.
She received a variety of professional honors (including election to the Sigma Xi scientific honor society), was a founding member of the Evaluation Research Society (now the American Evaluation Association), served as President of the Eastern Educational Research Association and Faculty Senate President at UNM, and created the Virginia Curran Shipman Doctoral Fellowship for academically outstanding doctoral students in the College of Education’s Family Studies Program.

Home Visiting Outcomes Evaluation in New Mexico

States are increasingly interested in understanding what outcomes have been achieved where public dollars have been spent. CEPR will share how it has provided legislatively-mandated outcomes accountability reporting and evaluation for statewide home visiting programs, and how those efforts fit with other important home visiting research and evaluation projects in the state.
